bloodbound. (earinor & akira)

    • They went and went, further and further and further, just so that they could see the place that he almost got murdered at and then pass it like it was the most normal thing to do - a trip like any other, just with a little bit of oddity, added into the mix of it all. Yujin wasn't quite sure why he ever agreed to that, but by now, it was too late to ditch the idea and he had to pull through, if he wanted to or not, he wasn't going to give Richard the satisfaction - or disappointment - of himself being like a little kid, unable to fend for himself or stand his ground and therefore, he just wanted to get there as fast as possible and get over it all. How bad could it be? All of those thoughts had not crossed his mind once, he had to admit that no matter what, he only had himself to blame for now, especially when he didn't even know the culprits behind the act - but it still was stupid. As they went, he wondered if he'd ever catch up to the blonde, but he never did, not once, not when the dead tree came into sight and not when the snow reflected a reality that wasn't there - he just cought up to him when he had already lost. Yujin wasn't a sore loser, which was why he came as close as he could and patted the blonde on his back, as if to signify that he did a good job. "So, what do you want as a reward? Your pick."

In the end, it was only fair that Richard got a reward to, especially after yesterday and the whole mess they had made of their makeshift cave - for some reason, he was glad that nobody was closeby and hurt them, or else he would have probably lost his mind for one reason or the other. Whatever did it matter? They'd just do what they wanted to do, it didn't matter if they shared camp with others or not, at least Yujin thought so - it hadn't stopped them from doing anything at the castle or in the hut anyway. "The cave is down there", the wolf answered, then loomed over the edge that he got closer too - it was a steep hill they were theoretically standing on, even though it was just icefloes that over the years, had shoved themselves atop one another, or so his theory. But where was the cave? Were they on the wrong side? Not only did Yujin have no idea, he also spotted something he couldn't quite discern from up here. "See that wooden pile sticking out of the snow? The cave should be across of it, it might be snowed in ever so slightly, but that's just the entrance." It wasn't exactly a satisfying conclusion, but instead, he got off of his horse and tied her to a tree. "We should leave them up here, it's more of a hassle to bring them down and back up again."
Looking back, it maybe is like the toy carts you rode when you were a kid. But those toy carts could never go beyond the walls of the lawn. We want to follow the rugged concrete road beyond the wall. As we've grown, we've decided to leave behind the toy cart.
    • Richard didn't have to wait long for Yujin to join him by the dead tree and when he did for some reason Richard got a pat on his back for winning. "Reward? It's fine.", Richard answered. They hadn't agreed on something like that before, so it was only fair not to get anything. Yujin was like Dayan in that regard, he always wanted to stake something. Richard was fine with having won and in the end he seldomly did against Dayan. Though if they bet on something stupid usually Dayan let Richard off the hook afterwards. Fun was really all they were after right and with Yujin it wasn't any different. Richard remembered his dept though, last night Yujin didn't want any of it though. Maybe he could use it tonight to get his mind off of the place he was at. Wasn't it odd? Richard didn't feel weird about thinking of giving him is prize, not at all and he also didn't feel bad because he lost, it was actually quite fine for him. How was that? It fit who he was before more than it did whoever he seemed to be now, but maybe he just needed time to get over all that happened to him.

Richard looked down into the valley which was full of snow that probably was hip deep with the wind not blowing it away but just accumulating it down there. If they slipped it was probably easy to crack their heads open or rip apart their flesh. "Wooden pile?", Richard asked, what did that do down their anyway? Richard got off his horse too when Yujin stepped foot in the snow. "Hm. Are you sure? We talked about wild animals before, right?", he pointed out slightly concerned. If they left the horses up here they couldn't even run if some wolf or bear had it out for them. But maybe there was nothing around anyway. "It's also not so late yet, right? Do you want to ride along the edge to the end of the valley? We came here to have you go farther than ever before, right? Or do you want to explore down there?" Maybe he would remember something, but maybe he didn't even want that, Richard wasn't sure. Whatever he decided was fine for Richard. They'd just need to be careful going down if they did. No need to get hurt now at the end of their journey.
    • "I insist. You don't have to tell me immediately if you need some time to come up with something you want." It could be anything and after all, he had gotten so much more than he had asked for too, it was only fair if Richard got something in return - even without a definite prize for the bet, they had still placed one and now, the winner was going to get something - as silly as it sounded, the blonded deserved a price, whatever he wanted to realize that or not, Yujin wasn't just going to let it slide and act like he had not just lost this race of theirs. But what came after that? There were many things that came to mind, many things he could think about, but none of them were quite satsifying to him just yet and every thought he might have had in that regard was just one step away from him, overstepping his boundaries and skimming down a line that he didn't want to. "That thing over there", he pointed out once more, but it wasn't exactly a pile, it was more like an uneven stick in a mass of white, sticking out from beneath and barely visible - for all he could see, it also could just be a felled tree branch that was being buried by the endless mass of snow that accumulated down there. This was ... something, wasn' it?

"Yes, but there shouldn't be any down there - it just seems impractical for them and for us, besides, finding wild animals out here is ... still unlikely. They rather skirt Silesse itself than anything out here, where there's barely any nourishment." Some of them stuck to the isolation, but others circled in on settlements and were a real pest to get rid of, once they thought they owned the place, even if only partially. Whatever the case, it didn't matter much, instead, he dug out the blankets for their horses and neatly put one of them on his own. "We still have plenty of time to go down there, then up here and explore a bit further if we want, and then there's still some light left before we have to set up camp. In the end, it doesn't matter where we go - I just have to pass the cave and that'd be the furthest I've ever went, but if I want answers, I need to go down there", Yujin elaborated, before grabbing his bow and arrows, just in case, and checking if the knife he'd been given was still where he had put it in all those layers of clothing. The valley wasn't anything that somebody would find out of the ordinary, yet it didn't make a good hiding spot and still, it would be a nice place for a settlement. "I guess if we sit ourselves on our asses, we can just slide down? It's mostly snow, not ice."
Looking back, it maybe is like the toy carts you rode when you were a kid. But those toy carts could never go beyond the walls of the lawn. We want to follow the rugged concrete road beyond the wall. As we've grown, we've decided to leave behind the toy cart.
    • "Mh, okay I guess. But I don't need a prize.", Richard answered but he knew Yujin enough to know that he wouldn't back down on this one. Maybe Richard would come up with something at some point, but right now he had nothing he wanted from him, so they would leave it at that, right? Richard followed Yujins gaze and it didn't matter too much where the cave was, not now at least. They could go down and try and find it then. And if they didn't they could still camp outside, like they did the last night. "Alright. I don't want the horses to get eaten at night, but if you say they'll be fine, I believe you.", Richard eventually answered and took the second horse blanket to put over his own. They wouldn't freeze, that much they knew and Richard suspected that animals out here could also just eat the snow for hydration, but he got some food for them from the bags too to give to them for now, though his own was already interested in the tree it got tied to. Then Richard took the rest of their stuff, or at least as much as he could carry himself. If they'd camp down there, they better brought it with them.

"Do you want answers?", Richard asked, being totally fine with the plan, but he wasn't sure if Yujin even wanted to go on. "Do you think it's possible you just ran down here in the storm and slipped? Maybe you got hurt sliding down.", he proposed while searching for a good spot to climb down. The snow was loose, it was dangerous just to step close to the edge, but Richard was careful. "Slide down? Not sure, I have a better Idea.", Richard eventually said and put one bag down again to search for something. He pulled out a rope he brought and tied it to a near tree. "After all we have to get up again too, right?", he mumbled while tying it and once it held tight he threw the other end down the hill. It would be easier to climb up if they had something to hold on to, even if it wasn't too steep it would be helpful. For now Richard grabbed their stuff again and checked if the tree held his weight. "I'll go first. If you still want to slide down, go ahead when I'm down there.", Richard said and then started to move downwards. The snow was deep and he wasn't sure what it hid, stones or spiky branches, who knew? So he was no fan of ripping open his ass and instead climbed down normally, with holding onto the rope, though he didn't truly need it. Once he was down there he looked up at Yujin and made some space for him.
    • Richard would decline until hell froze over, but it only so happened that Silesse came pretty close to hell and was always white, frigid and a force to be reckoned with. It felt like an indefinite fever dream, a place of something that he couldn't quite describe and yet he stood there, accepting it as his homeland. Were the people of Jehanna any better? Yujin wasn't sure, but theoretically, the wolves' queen ruled from there and that made Nayantai one of Jehanna as well - even if that was weird. Not because Richards old man didn't deserve a title, but rather because those places weren't actually places before, they were tribes, of a certain place, in a certain area - but Jehanna wouldn't stop being Jehanna now if its people moved, much like Silesse would always be Silesse, even when its people moved. "They should be, the chances of being eaten out here are slim anyway and to be frank, they don't give off the smell of blood and mangled flesh just yet. If I was a hunter, I'd not consider them prey." But animals weren't human, just as sheep didn't think wolves were during the war they had sparked and it all came crashing down in nobodies favor. The victor was still an army of mixed individuals, one that hadn't even existed when the war had been ignited and all in all, it had turned into quite the mess, hadn't it?

"I might as well look for some while I'm out here and overstepping any boundary I've ever had." Shuren had made it clear that this place was off-limits, that there wasn't much to be gained from digging into anyones past, but that almost felt like it was just a statement to get his own son to stop asking about his fathers, to have him focus on something that was far from what they'd call the truth, or a definite reality. The silence was almost bewitching, sort of at least and what followed after that was a trail of smoke, something not quite right just yet, but his attention was refocused on the blonde once more. "You do? Guess you're the brains and brawn of this", Yujin mumbled. Richard would protect him, then he'd figure out something as silly as this and Yujin grabbed the remaining belongings, unsure if he wanted to set up camp down there in the first place. "Sounds unlikely, but we'll not know until I can figure out something. Maybe being where it was will help." His eyes trailed after what the blonde was doing, focused on the idea he had and there it was, a way for them to climb down and back up if needed. This was smart and much better than the actual idea he'd had before, but it was just one way of getting down there. Once the blonde had reached the bottom, the wolf himself shouldered his own belongings and went down there after him - with the rope, instead of sliding down like he'd announced. It wasn't a long way, not like this, but he did reach the bottom of the hill eventually, let go of the rope and squinted. Nothing but vast, white snow and some wooden structure, sticking out beneath all of that. He didn't stop, instead, he squinted and looked for something - the cave he'd mentioned earlier. Where was it? "Over there, see that?"
Looking back, it maybe is like the toy carts you rode when you were a kid. But those toy carts could never go beyond the walls of the lawn. We want to follow the rugged concrete road beyond the wall. As we've grown, we've decided to leave behind the toy cart.
    • Richard hoped Yujin was right. First of all he didn't want to see those poor creatures get eaten and second, it would be hard to get back on food, it would take way too long, it was cold too and they didn't pack enough food in that case. Should that happen they were better off having someone look for them after all, but hopefully it all worked out anyway. Now he was the one who worried although he couldn't change a thing anyway, the horses couldn't make it down there, not without risking their lives. "Then let's go down there. Maybe something just pops up in your head, who knows.", Richard suggested and looked at Yujin when he told him that he basically was central in all aspects of this journey. Well for now they didn't need strength, but he'd handle that. When he was with Dayan he usually had been the brains. Not that his brother was stupid, just less creative maybe, and he rushed everything, just like Yujin who wanted to slide down the hill without knowing what was down there. It was weird to have both roles though, but he wasn't alone, not right now.

"Well then figure out a way we can help you remember.", Richard said. He doubted hitting him on the head again would help, so he didn't suggest it. Instead he climbed down, then waited and watched Yujin follow him, not sliding down, but taking it slow too. It wasn't too far of a climb and it wasn't too steep, but the rope would make it a lot easer to get back up. The exercise also warmed Richard up a bit, that was very welcome too, since he had been cold for the longest time. Even now he buried most of his face in his scarf. Yujin looked around and so did Richard. Eventually he followed where he pointed. "The piece of wood from before? Let's check it out. Once we've found that cave we can leave our things there and it'll be easier to venture about." With that Richard started to walk towards the spot. The snow was deep and he sank in, the snow reached over his knees, so moving wasn't all too fast, but possible. Once they got rid of all that laguagge it would become easier too.
    • "Whatever pops into my head should be useful, otherwise it would just feel like a definite waste to come here", Yujin sighed, knowing that the chances of remembering were quite slim, they always had been and any quack that called himself a doctor could see that. What had happened to him anyway? He had lived the best of his life, seemingly at least and now that he actually found himself trying to search for the things that he was missing, the things that he couldn't figure out on his own, he was at a crossroads, and impasse, gaining nothing from every silly step he took, whatever it was in the right or a wrong direction, it didn't matter and Yujin loathed himself for it, more than he wanted to. "Feeling my way around and just looking at my surroundings would be a good starting point", he proposed to Richard. Surely, there wasn't much to be gained from a few flimsy memories that marely made sense as they were, but he could at least try to figure it out for himself - even if it sounded silly and even if it was silly, there was nothing to satisfy, no hunger, no thoughts, nothing at all and none of that was going to amass into a pitchblack mass of anything if he kept going like this. Instead, he found himself waddling through thick snow, snow that never had been this high, or at least he didn't recall it being like that.

"Sounds like a plan", he concluded and went to the only waypoint they had - this was something that Yujin didn't remember, not from one of his ventures out here, but he'd never gone far and it was ridiculous that he did now, all of a sudden, when nothing and everything made sense at the same time. Lugging all of this stuff around was stupid, as well as the blinding effects that the reflective pieces of ice had, once they formed atop a pile of snow - but it all would be dealt with in due time, that much was apparent. Once Yujin had reached his goal, the temporary one at least, he extended his hand toward it - he wanted to know why it was like that, what brought himself in a situation like this and why none of this was making sense, but he only covered said hand in his sleeve and started wiping of the snow that had piled up atop of it. "This just looks odd, who goes out of their way to place something like this here?", the wolf wanted to know, asking himself, not Richard, but he had voiced that thought either way. However, as soon as he rid himself of the snow, he had uncovered a tilted cross, made of wood and hastily pierced into the snow beneath. It was rid of any inscription, or rather, there was something there he couldn't discern, but it just was odd. "What on earth ...", he grumbled, before taking a closer look. Thrians didn't do this kind of stuff, they burnt their relatives and scattered their ashes, freed them from the mortal coil of it all and let them be. The only reason to actually give anyone a grave out here was ... well, it could be two things. "Is this some sort of death valley or what on earth is this?"
Looking back, it maybe is like the toy carts you rode when you were a kid. But those toy carts could never go beyond the walls of the lawn. We want to follow the rugged concrete road beyond the wall. As we've grown, we've decided to leave behind the toy cart.
    • "A waste? That's what you call my company? That's usually my line.", Richard answered. They had decided on that trip to defy Yujins father, not to find something, right? They already did that and they already brought Yujin farther than he ever was, at least almost, that in itself was an achievement. It wasn't like Yujin to not see any good in this, usually he was the one laughing about everything and having fun while doing the most common of things. "I'll follow you then, but first let's find that cave to get rid of all the luggage. This stuff is heavy and in the way.", Richard proposed once more. Actually around here was more to look at than on the rest of their journey today. There were those watchtowers, but that was it. Here in this valley it least not all merged with the horizon, instead there were walls and an end to the vastness. It wasn't so windy in here either, which was nice, because it meant Richard was less cold, yet in exchange his feet got wet while he plodded through the fresh snow. He was glad he wore more than he usually did.

It took some odd minutes to reach their goal and once they were there Yujin extended his hand to figure ut what that piece of wood was. Richard didn't know what interested him so much there, but maybe it was something that he did remember, or that would help him, so he let him do whatever he wanted. What he uncovered was a small wooden cross. "Well it looks like a memorial of sorts. Maybe someone who travelled to Silesse, not alone and the other person fell and died here?", he suggested, because that was the first thing that came to his mind. "Death valley? Because we found one cross? We don't even know if there is a grave underneath.", Richard said coming a little bit closer. He doubted they would dig up whatever lay underneath, right? Yujin wouldn't do something weird like that, would he? "Or maybe the person this is for just liked this place. In Adrestia we have graves and cemeteries for the dead, but sometimes we put crosses somewhere else, to remember something, or to give people a personal space to mourn. If someone drowns in a lake, sometimes we put a cross there to remember it. Maybe it's something like that and the body is still ashes, like you usually do out here, right? Or are you remembering something?" Maybe it was a grave for Yujins lost memories, but Richard decided not to try and make a joke, because usually Yujin didn't find it funny anyway.
    • "And now I stole it from you", the wolf answered, but that wasn't exactly what he meant, not at all at least. "I wouldn't call your company a waste, but defying my father would be one if we come out here just to uncover nothing special to begin with." None of his memories, nothing, not even a piece of information that could give him something to remember anything, but then again, they stood in front of a cross in goddamn nowhere, covered in snow, frigid and barren as this land would always be and he wondered if the snow out here ever melted, or if they just dug all of their relatives icy coffins when they didn't burn them, which ... didn't happen often either. "That's not it. I go here, get injured and mangled and between then and now, there is a cross here, which means somebody else shared my fate in a less fortunate way. Silesse isn't prone to violence and murder, you know? There isn't much out there and if you commit one atrocity, you'll be victim of the next." Rules were just guidelines, not set in stone and definitely nothing to even get worked up about - therefore, it only followed that something was wrong, incredibly wrong. Whatever the case, whatever the weird feeling he'd experienced ealrier, he just felt nauseated now and the cross didn't make much sense. Why put up one out here? Who would be as stupid as that? "Even if the person fell and died, lets assume from up there, why would anyone even care to come down here, bury them and then struggle to find a way out themselves? That seems idealistic at best", he concluded and brushed against the wooden surface of that cross. There wasn't much here to begin with, just that, but the cave was around here somewhere as well - but where? It almost became an afterthought, now that he found himself mesmerized by some piece of woods.

"I'm not remembering anything, I'm remembering that this cross hasn't been here before, but it looks dated, then again, snow and ice can do that and we concluded memories can be faulty too. It's just uncanny to have a cross out here, that's all." What did that even mean and how much did Richard even know in the first place? Judging by the fact that his thrian heritage seemed kind of apparent and his knowledge slightly muddled up at parts, Yujin didn't expect him to know everything. "Burying someone out here is stupid. Thrians, religious or not, believe that the body is just a cage for a soul after death and with the temperatures out here, your body wouldn't decompose - either wild animals get to it or you get mummified by all the ice and snow overtime, meaning your soul would be eternally trapped like a wingless bird in a birdcage without a door." This wasn't much information to go of in the first place, but it explained the gist of it pretty well. "Your body will almost always be burned ... unless one of two factors apply. If you deserve to suffer for all eternity, you will be buried in ice and snow, entombed for all eternity - but that wouldn't warrant you a cross. The other is if it's not viable to drag you - or your remains - back home and burn them someplace your soul would consider safe because it's fled the cage either way already, that would warrant you a cross or a tombstone of any kind. The third one would be a memorial, but that's not something usual either", he grumbled and let his fingers trail over the blurred inscription on the cross - what on earth was this supposed to mean? Yujin looked up, before finding what they had initially looked for anyway - and promptly sticking his hand in the snow in front of the makeshift grave, just to feel around and find nothing - before walking past it. "The cave is over there."
Looking back, it maybe is like the toy carts you rode when you were a kid. But those toy carts could never go beyond the walls of the lawn. We want to follow the rugged concrete road beyond the wall. As we've grown, we've decided to leave behind the toy cart.
    • "Isn't it about the achievement alone? He didn't let you out here for the life of him, now you're here, let him suck on that. It doesn't even matter if he finds out or not.", Richard answered, not everything needed to make sense and the reason he suggested that trip in the first place was partly because he just wanted to do something stupid, something he wasn't allowed to, though in his case Nayantai probably didn't mind too much as long as he came back home. Since he couldn't do anything because of that, Yujin was the next best person who had so many rules to adhere to. Now that Richard thought about it, maybe he was only selfish to bring him here, but in the end he was the one insisting to keep going while Richard was content with the night away from Silesse. "You didn't explain to me what you did here. I thought you were found here, I assumed you didn't walk around much, so why would you have seen that thing?", Richard asked, Yujin just gave away bits and pieces and nothing made sense, instead of sharing everything he knew so Richard could help. All he suggested was brushed aside as well. "Idealistic? I'd go back to Adrestia to bury my siblings if I could, even if it would kill me. I hate the thought of them being cast away in a dirty corner, even though they are dead. It's just what people do when they love someone. It's not unlikely for someone to climb down here as well, to set a grave and besides, the person could have fallen and lived a few more hours or days, with whoever set up that grave caring for him until he died. Then he'd already been down there. And you can't tell me it's idealistic to climb down here to help a hurt friend. It wasn't even that hard to begin with, we're here too, right?", Richard answered kind of upset by Yujin talking about not caring about a friend, lover, relative or whoever if they fell somewhere. Even while being dead, just letting their bodies rot there was just wrong, no matter if Thrian or Adrestian.

"Nothing uncanny about it from an Adrestian point of view. Maybe it was a sheep." That was unlikely, but Richard wasn't the only sheep out that made it here. "You don't know if someone is buried here.", Richard elaborated once more. A cross didn't mean that there also was a body. "So why not go with the second option then? Imagine we had no horses and I'd die here, you wouldn't be able to bring me back, though you elaborated, you wouldn't even go through the hassle of coming down here... Now imagine Nayantai wouldn't care either, or you were actually going in the opposite direction, away from Silesse. There you have a person not able to recover the remains and instead burring his friend or whoever." Richard wasn't sure why Yujin was so worked up about that. Why did it matter to him so much? In two or a little more years someone could have come past here, so what? "If it wasn't here when you had your accident, why does it matter in the first place? That means it has nothing to do with you, right?", Richard asked. "Unless someone prematurely built one for you and then found you anyways." What was he doing now? Did he try to find out if there was a body for real now? Eventually he lost interested apparently. "If you're so interested in it, why not take the piece of wood with you? Maybe you can figure out what was written on there at home, with better light, or some paper and coal. Might work.", Richard asked, but followed Yujin through the snow again to find the cave they looked for. "You know what? I feel like you want to uncover all this for yourself anyway. Why don't I ready our camp while you walk around a little? Just stay in sight and yell if something is up."
    • "Suck on what now? The fact that I got out here? I'd rather have you su- no, nevermind, this is misplaced. I get what you mean", he finally cracked a joke, but only because the opportunity had presented itself so clearly that he couldn't just let it pass and not give Richard a good taste of said medicine once more. Slowly but surely, he'd warm up to all of this again and it wouldn't be any more important than it was before - one afterthought, added to a pile of those, back to the beginning of not remembering something about anything and it wasn't like Richard was here to serve as his vault of memories, either. There was a distinct difference between forgetting involuntarily and on purpose - many did the latter, Yujin didn't, despite trying his utmost. What was there left to figure out, why couldn't he do it on his own and quite frankly, what would it mean to be the person he was before all of this? Nothing, he'd have changed over time either way, be it for better or for worse, it didn't matter much. What mattered, however, was the sole thought of forgetting once more - what if this trip was nothing more than a distant star, about to die once Richard left him behind? Fuck, he was overthinking this, he almost sounded like the blonde and his words didn't helpt either, they felt like gut punches instead. "I came here before, that's why me and Quan were in the area to begin with." They had wandered, had seen this place and decided it was a pretty decent spot to camp at, he knew that, but up until now, he'd always avoided it for quite obvious, bloody reasons. "I ... yes ... you're right. That ... isn't too idealistic in the end." It still was, at least to him, someone like him that was - but why was he all gloomy like this?

"What sheep would come out here if the ports are open? And that aside, you'd ... not take this route. If you came from the obvious one, you'd cross Jehanna, which wouldn't lead you here." Settlements in Thria still were small, the big ones didn't even compare to an adrestian city, but nobody cared, they took their time and cherished said time as much as they could, as if the next mad king would pry it out of their cold, dead hands the first chance they got. "Don't be silly, I wouldn't let you die here. A smile would suit you, but I told you that often enough already ... just, don't talk about yourself like that, will you?" However, he could barely know what was going on inside of the blonde - but there was some things he was able to guess and assume from whatever it was that they both had heared of before - there were outburst, there wasn't much happiness from time to time, and yet it was not too bad that he stuck with Richard, was it now? "Besides, I'm sure your father would kill me if I let you die out here and I'd not be able to live with the burden." There he had it, the answer Richard probably didn't even want to hear, but Yujin had understood the gist of it - all of this was just incredibly bizzare, yet, he hadn't even touched the cross more than to let his fingers trail over it and left it where it belonged, as if he was going to destroy someones eternal slumber by taking it with him. "One for me? I mean ... I ... I guess? But ... ah, fuck, I can't remember anyways!" That wouldn't matter, it never had and trying to understand it was a pain in the ass - the cross was new, it wasn't as old as his incident, or at least not older than that and Yujin hated the realization of it. "It's not that I want to uncover this myself, I just don't get what on earth is going on and coming here begs more questions than answers. Besides, I'd have to desecrate a grave for this - the gods will murder me. ... And you can't just set camp up on your own."

    • Richard simply rolled his eyes and acted like he didn't just hear what Yujin said. But he did remember that he owed him exactly that anyway, but not now, especially not when Yujin just used it to get away from the difficult questions he was presented with. Right now Yujin had some figuring out to do and Richard felt like he wasn't much help anyway and instead scrambled his thoughts even more, planting ideas that were nothing more than that while Yujin maybe should just listen to his gut. "Alright. Maybe Quan put it there because he's an idiot and felt bad about what happened. I don't know, but I guess I'll shut up now anyway. You're better off figuring this out on your own.", Richard said. He didn't know all too much about Thria, way less about Silesse and applying Adrestian logic probably didn't help. For Richard a cross was something else than for Yujin and most people who could have put it there, so why would he be the one thinking about it? He just growled a little when Yujin agreed that it wasn't idealistic at all. Thrians must have been the same, maybe not to burry someone, but to get his body and burn them, if it freed their souls or whatever. Richards father was buried and now he wondered if that ever bothered Nayantai? The same was true for both of Richards grandfathers. Crosses still were not out of the ordinary for Adrestians and Nayantai and him even put one for their family past their hut, on the cliff overlooking the sea. Would Yujin freak out if he found that too?

"People get lost. I don't know.", Richard simply answered. "If there aren't many Thrians who would do something like that, you probably find the person in town." Wasn't it that? He could just go around and ask. Silesse wasn't home to many people and if nobody traveled to Silesse it was either someone living their, or someone who left in the last two years. That circled it down, but Richard was done with talking too much for now. "It was just an example. I won't die here.", Richard sighed, no he would die somewhere else and that was definitive. "I'm here to protect you, not the other way around. Remember?" Because Yujin was the girl after all. "Did Quan never come back here alone?", Richard eventually asked, if he did Yujin could ask him about the cross too. "It's probably better I don't talk too much and plant ideas in your head. Your gut feeling is probably the one thing most reliable, so you should go with that and not my logic. And sure I can. Why wouldn't I?", Richard asked. He just needed to set up the tent and stack some wood, that was easy enough. They'd have the cave, but inside the tent would still be warmer probably. "If you want to know what's underneath that cross and don't have the guts, I can do it for you. The gods already hate me, or at least I don't matter to them. Probably because they can't decide who is responsible for my fate, since I'm a half-breed." Didn't his grandfather have the toughest of luck too? Then again where were the gods for Nayantai? This was stupid, Richard didn't believe in any higher being anyway.
    • "Quan?", he recalled as if hearing that name was odd, but he couldn't quite say that. It was a possibility, one of many, but it didn't matter much when he couldn't even ask the guy and knowing where the brunette went, it also didn't seem plaubsible, which is why he shook his head instead. This wasn't going to get him anywhere, that much was for sure, but the thought itself wasn't so bad, not to him. Why was Richard trying to help him, though? Was he pitying him or was he insane enough to think that nothing of this was going to be of any importance? Whatever the case, Yujin had enough of getting berated by the blonde and while his opinions did help somewhat, it just felt odd to hear them, blurted out like this, mixed together with those own, quite stupid thoughts of his, when he could be the one busy figuring all of this mystery out. "I'll just try my best and get behind whatever has kept bugging me for the past few years, but I'll tell you, or else I won't have any way of remembering that, either." If the blonde retained that secret for him, at least until he got to write it down, then it all would be in good faith - but for that, he had to figure this little secret out first and until he actually did, there was no telling of what really went down here, as sad as it sounded and as stupid as it was, there was no way for him to know anything about all of this to begin with. "That doesn't mean I can't at least try to protect you, too, right? At least I hope neither of us need to protect one another, but still, it's always good to have one anothers back." No fiends or foes were closing in on them, they were all alone down here and that wouldn't change unless someone cought up to them, which - for now - seemed almost as unlikely as a fever dream would suggest. "I ... no idea. I think I asked him about something like that, but he kept avoiding the topic like it was some sort of pest that he was going to contract if he did, so I let him off of the hook eventually. Not that he had anything interesting to say in that regard, though ... he just apologized a whole bunch." That was burned in the back of his skull, almost like it belonged there, because it was one of the very first things he'd seen after he'd woken up and it was just Quan being sad about what happened and happy about finding out that Yujin, indeed, hadn't died. It was so strange, it didn't make sense to himself, now that he thought about it. "I thought you'd like some help, but if you say you can handle it on your own, I won't stop you. Just ... take care, alright?", he asked of the blonde, before he did force his way inside the cave and got rid of the luggage he was carrying around - now, to go back out there and actually do some investigating of the situation.

"I have guts! Both figuratively and actually, but that's not ... mh, forget about it. I'll go dissect my grave, I'll let you set up camp and we can be self-depreciating together when we both crawl back into our fur nest", the wolf grumbled as he trailed off again, back to the grave. They had found him out here, but he recalled being inside the cave as well, so what was the truth? It seemed almost stupid to think about it now, but he did want to dissect this stupid grave, which was why he - once he reached it - did look at the wooden cross further. It didn't look hastily put together, it had something else engraved into it, patterns of all things and he knew those too well. They were silessian patterns, which meant the corpse or its remnants did belong to one of his own, but what was more, he did start outlining a possible grave on the snow that he stood in, before he started digging and desecrating the grave itself. There was silence for a good while, but he did find something amidst the heaps of snow eventually, once his fingers turned cold and red and kind of numb - soaked, frozen fabric, barely stained with blood, which seemingly was absorbed by the snow around it. Something was wrapped into it, but Yujins head hurt already when he tried to wrap it around the fact that he did know where that belonged - and it didn't help much when he looked up and saw something, someone, looming over him. "AH FUCK!", he yelled out, falling flat onto his ass, but once he looked back up again, there was ... nobody there. He was going insane, wasn't he? His heart banged against his chest and the state of the clothing the he did find, the bits and pieces that seemed to be buried in all of this snow, wrapped around something ... none of it made sense. This was a grave, for himself, all factors pointed into that direction but if it were, why was he still alive and what in gods name was wrapped so neatly between bloody, frozen clothes? Yujin didn't want to know, in fact, his stomach was turning and if he had any food he could have thrown up, he would, but there was none - it wasn't enough for him to spew bile - and instead, he just ... what was he going to do with that? The wolf sat it aside, redirected his attention to the wooden cross and looked for some more clues. That couldn't be his, not in a million years was this his ...

    • "That's fine. I'll remember for you.", Richard answered but Yujin better wrote it down at some point, because Richard wouldn't stay in Silesse forever. Actually Richard asked himself if there was a point Yujin did remember, but since his father kept him from this place, maybe he also tool away everything that could have reminded him of whatever happened here. Richard would be lying if he said he wasn't nosy, this was probably the most interesting thing happening in Silesse, bur for now he let Yujin figure this out on his own. The trip itself had been nice and Richard enjoyed camping outside, even if it was cold. "You're right. We're out here together, but in any case. there is no need to worry right now. An Animal wouldn't have it easy coming down here either and we saw no footprints, so I'll be fine here on my own.", Richard answered, neither of them had to worry too much about the other. They were already down the valley it was unlikely for them to fall even further and there was no one and nothing around them. "I can try and punch some answers out of him?", Richard proposed, but that probably wasn't what Yujin wanted, though Quan may have earned a good beating anyway. "I'll be fine. Now go.", Richard sighed, he was capable to set up camp, there was nothing much to it. Richard got rid of his own luggage once entering the cave and looked around a bit to figure out what they were dealing with.

"Have fun.", Richard commented and found it kind of funny Yujin called their bed for the night fur nest. He was right though. Richard looked around the cave, it wasn't leading anywhere and there was no sign of someone or something being here recently. It looked safe enough as long as they didn't get locked in by snow falling down and covering the entrance, but even then they could just bury themselves outside again. Richard went to their belongings to grab the tent and started building it up. He got rid of his gloves for that, his fingers were cold, but he was fine while he moved anyway. Richard was interrupted and practically jumped up when he heard Yujins voice though. He hastily left the cave to find him sitting in front of that cross still, only that he now dug a hole. "Everything alright? I heard you scream. Are you hurt?", he asked, but Yujin didn't look hurt. He looked like he had seen a ghost though, he was even more pale than usually and he was shaking, wasn't he? Richard turned his gaze towards something Yujin dug up apparently, but for now he just ignored it was there, as long as Yujin wouldn't just throw away a clue.
    • What on earth was his mind telling him? He knew the gods favored no one, or rather rarely did, but it seemed almost painstakingly obvious that he wasn’t exactly their favorite plaything and that only furthered his assumption that he’d forgot more than he wanted to. Just what had that shadow been a few seconds ago? It had loomed over him, dangerously close and for a second, he thought it’d swallow him, but it had just disappeared like the mirage it was. This wasn’t exactly favorable, not when he reconsidered all of this and figured for himself that, no matter what, he’d be on his legs for quite some time now, stagger around the barren wasteland that called itself Silesse and its outskirts - and his only anchor was Richard, who had his own baggage to carry. Why was he even caring for a bundle like that? Maybe there were things that should better stay buried, below ground so to speak, but whatever the case, it hardly mattered, if it did at all. “I … no, I wouldn’t say hurt”, he answered when he heard Richards voice - there was no howling wind down here, just emptiness and the frigid cold that kept him occupied for one reason or another. The silence had been apparent, yet, it wasn’t going anywhere to begin with, as long as he didn’t listen to Richard and those few words, spilling from his lips.

Those eyes of his weren’t looking up, though, they were looking down and while he usually would suspect foul play, some sort of stupid fucking prank that someone was pulling on him, he couldn’t, not in this case. The cross bore insignias and patterns of his own family, the clothing that he held - the strips that had been frozen solid and dirtied by his own blood - were holding onto something and he didn’t dare pull them apart, or even consider bringing them into their makeshift home - no. He had sat them aside and now was confused as to what he truly wanted, or should be doing, but it all seemed to be in vain either way - no matter what it was, he’d find himself at an impasse. Those hands of his reached for the cross that had seen better days and he did lift himself up like that, only to now pull the cross out of the ground - and for a moment, he thought someone was putting two heavy hands on his shoulders, dragging him down and spewing nonsense, now that he was trying his best to remove a piece of wood. “Something’s incredibly fucked up out here, that’s all”, he concluded for Richard, only to turn around and confirm that nobody was actually pressing him down - but there was, at least for a second his eyes caught a glimpse of somebody that, most likely, had died - and again, the wolf yelled out. “For … fucks sake”, Yujin grumbled as he tore the cross from the ground and found quite the … unpleasant surprise. There they were, the rest of the same fabric that was wrapped around something and frozen solid, just wrapped around the end of the wooden pillar. “Like, why on EARTH is my clothing wrapped around this cross and thrown into this stupid grave!” His hands gripped at the frozen fabric, to see if he could tear it off the wooden cross, but there was no chance. “What’s even worse, there’s something wrapped into this neat little package over there and I don’t know if I want to know”, he growled as he cast aside the cross too and went back to the hole in the ground, to dig around some more. What was this? Him shoveling his … own … grave? Fuck, his head hurt, he felt like throwing up and almost as if that hadn’t been enough, he pulled his head and arms out of the hole, just then and there - he looked even more spooked and for a moment, he’d seen things, again, as if something was bleeding in from the corner of his eyes, some details he’d - frankly - forgotten. So that was what exactly?

    • Yujin said he wasn't hurt and Richard ought to believe that, he had no reason not to, even though he didn't even look up. He sat there in the snow, having the bundle of - whatever it was - and the cross in front of him. Richard wasn't sure if he should just go back inside the cave to fix up the rest of the tent and prepare a fire, maybe some tea and food. Yujin actually looked like he could use some tea to warm up and maybe calm him down a little. However, it felt misplaced to just leave him right now, but it also felt wrong to talk to him again, to ask all kinds of questions Yujin couldn't answer anyway, because he was about to figure it out right now. Was he still though? He looked like whatever he tried to forget was supposed to stay hidden, but maybe he'd be able to remember more things if he just figured out what scrambled up his brain in the first place. Nothing could be too horrible to cope right? Richard saw his siblings die right in front of his eyes, he almost dies himself right after and he was still here. He wasn't fine, but he was alive.

If this cross had something to do with what happened to Yujin, then Quan had to know something and even if Yujin told him he let him off the hook and it wasn't necessary to beat the shit out of him, Richard could still do that on his own accord, because no fucking person wanted to tell Yujin the truth apparently. Why keep him away if there was nothing hidden? His father knew what was up probably, but Richard couldn't exactly beat him up, could he now? Why did he even care about that? He didn't know, he felt like there had to be at least one person that helped Yujin to figure out his past, though right about now Richard wasn't sure if Yujin even wanted that anymore. Yujin ripped the cross out of the ground eventually, although he previously sounded like he didn't want to do that. Richard didn't comment, he didn't help and he also didn't stop Yujin, he just let him do what he wanted. He seemed frantic, turning around like he heard something, but there was no one but the two of them. Richard took a step back however, just in case Yujin wanted to throw something around all of a sudden. Richard wasn't sure how Yujin knew that this was his clothing, but he didn't question it and the question Yujin raised himself wasn't directed at the blonde either. Richard wasn't sure if this was worth freaking out over, then again some misplaced words make himself freak out too, so he shouldn't judge. Yujin put the cross away and pointed at the package, whatever that was. "Do you want me to look inside?", Richard slowly asked. He could take a peak and tell Yujin if it seemed important or not. He didn't have to look himself if he didn't want to. "Yujin you should calm down. Remember that whatever happened happened years ago. Whatever it was cannot hurt you today, alright?" Richard didn't know if he should approach Yujin, but he didn't for now, maybe that just made it worse or he stopped trying to find answers altogether.
    • Whoever found something like this out here was in for a world of hurt, but Yujin couldn’t quite wrap his head around why these things were happening in the first place. He bore a burden that anybody could shoulder, he wasn’t important in the first place and that, in turn, would only mean that his problems also weren’t something that everyone had to concern themselves with. Yujin had always been the second prince, nothing important, and therefore always the second choice - it only followed that none of these problems were quite important, that he himself wasn’t important and once Xu ascended his stupid throne, he’d be somebody of importance like he’d always been, all the while Yujin faded into obscurity. Now, however, this was somewhat different - he was himself, much like Richard was. Out here, rank and title played no importance from their point of view, not when all of them were the same in deaths eyes - and while he tried oh so desperately to avoid an unfortunate, way too early demise, Richard seemingly hounded after death, as if it was the only thing on his agenda. But those were things better left unspoken, yet quite noticeable, wasn’t it? Whatever, he wouldn’t stick his nose into all of Richards affairs and Richard wouldn’t stick his nose into his own, that was only fair.

“You won’t be able to open it up either way”, Yujin sighed, peaking at the bundle of clothing that apparently hid something not only from him but also Richard. There was something they could do with this, or at least the wolf had an idea, as he grabbed the cross and the bundle of clothing instead, got back up on his feet and gave the blonde a glance that didn’t say much. “It’s not that, I’m trying to, but I keep seeing shit that obviously isn’t there. Let’s just get this thing warmed up and figure out what on earth the inscription means. I have a knife, if I’m lucky I can just get rid of the worn parts”, the wolf elaborated, but he wasn’t sure if he even wanted that. If those were his clothes, that was his grave, so that meant this was his cross and that, in turn, meant that those muddled, grotesque memories he experienced were of what, exactly? Him desperately digging his own grave after getting mangled by some maniacs that nobody ever found? Or did that just not add up in the end? “I’m as calm as I can be, I just don’t know if I want to remember if some black splotches of stupid shit and long gone memories make me nauseous and give me a skullcrushing headache.” Was his head trying to replicate the feelings he experienced when he had been on the ground out there? Well, he had no idea, but it was enough for him to grab Richards hand somehow and hold onto it. “I have you, I’ll be as safe as I can be. And now lets make a fire before I crawl into this icy grave to search for more answers.”

    • Yujin suddenly grabbed all the things to march back into the cave. He looked at the blonde briefly, but Richard didn't know what to make of it and instead just trailed after him. "Just don't break it even more.", Richard commented. He didn't want Yujin to break one of very few clues. In the end however a fire would be nice. "It's probably less seeing stuff and more remembering, like a daydream.", Richard said only because he wanted to calm Yujin down, not because he believed what he said. Maybe Yujin was just crazy, after all he didn't know him for very long and the fact that the prince ran after someone like the blonde like an idiot was enough to question his sanity. "No one is forcing you.", Richard reminded Yujin. All he wanted to do was bringing him somewhere he wasn't supposed to be. He always said he was locked up and stuck in Silesse, not allowed to leave. Richard just wanted to show him some other barren white snow filled place just after the border. Yujin then decided to come here instead of , as he had put it 'using the obvious route', a rout that would have led to Jehanna.

Suddenly Yujin grabbed Richards hand and the blond looked down at it almost creeped out by it. Well he let Yujin hold his hand for now, not sure why he was so antsy in the first place. If he remembered something he didn't want to know, he just needed to wait for it to disappear again anyway. Maybe he even got answers before, maybe even from his father, but he chose to forget it again, because he couldn't deal with it. That was odd in itself though. "Well then you have to let go of me.", Richard said and freed his hand. Richard was soaked, from walking through the snow knee deep. His clothes were wet, his hair was too from some snow that fell and overall he was cold. He got used to feeling cold all the time, but it still wasn't nice and he rather sat in front of a warm fire and thus he started to stack up some wood near the entrance, so they'd not die from smoke and then he lighted it on fire. Once this was done he let Yujin do whatever he wanted, put that bundle next to it or whatever, while Richard got everything he needed to make Yujin and himself a cup of tea. He got some now from outside, from a place on the opposite side of that grave - because that snow there was probably very disgusting - and put it in a pot hanging over the fire to heat it up. Eventually he wordlessly pressed one cup with boiling hot tea into Yujins hands.
    • "I ripped it out of the ground and it's not some makeshift bullshit, it's silessian work, it should be fine", he answered, just to get Richard off his case. There was a plethora of ways this could go, but none of them were particularly interesting or even the slightest bit of informative for any of them. The sole thing he could, however, think about, was the fact that while often enough nothing remained in a way that it made sense or was beneficial to ones surroundings, not all had to be lost to time - there was a slim chance that no matter what, all of this was good in one way or the other and whoever thought otherwise was about to find themselves at the sharp end of a weapon, receiving nothing but maltreatment. "So a daydream seeping into reality? Great, sounds absolutely horrible." Yujin couldn't recall a single instance of himself being out here and actually finding out about the many things that could have happened to him - this here was different, not only because he had somehow needed it, but also because it seemed especially unlikely that he would find himself in a similar situation soon. He dragged the cross and the bundle with him and before he could do much, it was Richard that was setting up a fire and letting him place his new belongings close to it.

The bundle of fabric, soaked in more than one liquid, was probably going to be the worst to deal with, so it should stay where it was the longest - but the rest of the frozen fabric was still wrapped around the cross, upside down at that, and not like a coat fluttering in the wind, rather, it was a foundation in all of that ice and snow to hinder nature from getting to the cross itself. "I want to hold your hand, though", the wolf grumbled, missing the touch already. He still was as clingy as ever, that was good. Yujin just placed them there and hoped that, despite the air being frigid, the warmth eminating from the flickering flames would be enough to keep all of this in check and make them see through the mess that most of this was. However, it took already long enough for the coat, or whatever he suspected it to be, to become peelable - but once it was, he put his hands to it and started gripping and ripping on it for good measure. Honestly, it was a miracle that the fabric itself wasn't tearing, only the thin layers of ice keeping all of that attached to the wooden cross - and once Yujin had uncovered it, he was sure that that soaked, still kind of stiff thing was, all things considered, a coat - one of his, or at least one made for him. Unfolding it seemed like a struggle, but ... this was just odd. Yujin cast it aside, wanted to let it melt some more, though, before he could even grab the cross, a cup of tea was thrust into his hands. "Thank you, but ... that wasn't necessary. What about you? Are you alright?"

    • "Just... don't scratch away the information with your knife...", Richard said with a sigh attached at the end, but Yujin quite obviously didn't want to talk or be told what to do. The wolf was all over the place and Richard suspected that this night would be everything but relaxing and quiet, but he brought himself into this mess, didn't he? "It's just a dream though.", Richard said, though he knew that dreams could be horrible, even when he knew they were. Didn't he wake up to 'simply dreams' every night? Well actually it were memories but the same was true for Yujin probably. Still, Richard just wanted him to calm down, none of that could hurt him, not in a physical way at least. Richard however was probably not very good at cheering someone up, especially not when he looked like a wet dog himself. Right now he could occupy his thoughts either with Yujins little mystery he wasn't allowed to participate in, or he let his thoughts run wild, which was probably a bad idea, because then he had to deal with his own demons If he forgot what happened to his siblings, would he take the chance and try to remember? or would he just try to hide from it? He didn't know, but actually he didn't want to forget, it wouldn't be fair to them. Someone had to remember and someone had to take revenge on those responsible for their death.

"If you hold my hand I cannot make a fire.", Richard responded, eying Yujin from the side as he fumbled with his things now, instead of Richards hand. The cave was nice, the walls reflected the warmth of the fire a little bit and thus it was warmer than if they sat outside again. Also in here there was no wind and no snow they had to sit on. Richard wasn't surrounded by cold snow and ice anymore. The stuff Yujin brought over was slowly freed of the ice and after a little while Yujin started fumbling around, looking like he was going to rip everything to shreds instead of keeping it intact, but Richard shut his mouth. He simply watched Yujin from the corner of his eyes as he got the fabric free and tried to unfold it to what it was before. It seemed to be a coat, which was partly bloody. Why would anyone burry a bloody coat? Well, Yujin would tell him if he finally knew, but right now, before he broke something after all, he got his tea. "Why wouldn't I be?", Richard asked, his own cup of tea in hands and sitting down next to the fire as well, to warm up. If he would have had a spare change of clothes, he probably would have changed into something dry, but instead he grabbed one of the bags and pulled some fur out of it to put it on his lap.
