haha funny cannibalism | old man x old man | NSFL

pull up the ladder when the flood comes, throw enough rope until the legs have swung
seven new ways that you can eat your young
come and get some, skinning the children for a war drum
putting food on the table selling bombs and guns, it's quicker and easier to eat your young

haven't you heard? the circus is back in town, complete with all kinds of shows and entertainers! new performers line their ranks and old ones have since left, but what does that matter? the entry fee is too good to be true and all the cheering from the big tent, especially during the later shows at night, is bound to attract attention from all around; strangers flock in from different towns in the countryside, just to see that one particular show again, no matter the cost - no matter how long they need to travel, actually. almost as if the performers bewitched their audience and glistening glimmer on their bodies isn't just make-up. if one were to think about that specific circus ... isn't it odd that it always tours around large cities and expansive countrysides, and that their performers seem to change between every other show? no, that's just the normal life of any performer, of course - things change, and sometimes, well, unfortunate accents happen with all those exhausting shows they are putting on; of course some performers also need rest or a break from their profession; the business is booming after all and everyone deserves a good laugh for their dirt-cheap tickets; no wonder they keep replacing inadequate performers!

at least that's the public opinion - and the director wouldn't have it any other way. schooled in all kinds of deceit and trickery, the faceless trickster not only helms the circus, but also seemingly has made a deal with the devil, if one were to judge by the fact that those inadequate performers are always seen last with him, before he procures another one of his freakishly human dolls ... or maybe he just wants some memorabilia from those he can no longer afford to keep on payroll. x and y have long since given up on doubting their bosses motives; they've worked for him for more than a few years, have experience and never disappoint. without them, what would this circus be? they could very well be the faces of the whole thing, if they were any more self-serving, that is, but why would they be? after all, x uses most of his money to recruit a lost soul into their entourage at every stop, almost as if he felt pity on those who can't afford their shows - y is the one that ends up stuck with the brats sometimes, something he questions often enough, as he watches x bring another one back to their goofy tent, telling them all about the better life they might lead, eventually, if they perform adequately; almost none of them do. but where's the fun and the joy in being a circus performer if ones private life wasn't full of giggles and laughter? probably lost in the ever-present fog guiding them through every other town, as their path is littered with the bodies of the unfortunate.

    • Name: Louis
      Age: 20
      Height: 177cm

0d70e3fb638e9d92caf70d64348c37c4.jpgBackground: Louis lives in the circus as long as he can remember. He isn't sure if he was snatched from the streets, sold by his parents, or born there (though he never saw anyone being pregnant, so he didn't really believe that theory.) He was always eager to impress the ringmaster and started out juggling for the other children that came to visit. Soon he dabbled in other disciplines too, he performed on the ropes, as a mere clown, handled some of their animals and taught himself how to throw knives properly. Eventually a knew boy arrived - X - and they soon became friends, being around the same age. The members of the circus sometimes changed often, many of the other kids Louis met weren't around for very long, but X stuck with him. While X was very skillful in what he did, Louis enhanced his skills in every part of their shows, starting to fill holes when another boy or girl left and eventually he filled the role of the announcer as well, knowing so much about the circus, their performance and the people who lived with them, he was the perfect fit.

afcaf8aef693f7f360483b2bf9aa922f.jpgNext to Louis and his best friend there are other long lasting members, but just as many new ones he often enough gets signed up to train, since he had a foot in every discipline. The ringmaster expected him to find the perfect spot for every single one of them and when he was younger, he enjoyed the responsibility, however that changed one night.
One faithful night about three or four years back their big circus tent caught on fire. Luckily enough it was in the morning, when some of the performers were training, but there hadn't been any visitors yet. Louis - in search of his friend and others - ran back into the blazing flames, once he noticed there were multiple people unaccounted for. Whilst most were saved, Louis came out coughing and gravely injured. Some of the left side of his face got gravely burnt, as well as parts of the skin on his left arm, shoulder and leg. Usually if someone was hurt and couldn't perform anymore, they were gone soon enough and Louis never questioned what happened, he simply believed they needed rest, or found a more suitable work, but Louis wasn't let go, no. The ringmaster took care of him and even though everything healed and only left some scars, Louis had never been the same person again. He doesn't like to speak about the incident, or the immediate time after he spent healing. Furthermore he pulled back from everyone. He still attends his duties with utmost care, but he seemingly has no interest in spending time with anyone outside of work, nor is he running around friendly and cheerful anymore. Only in the big tent does he still play the part of the most welcoming person in the world.

      - Louis has multiple scars from the fire on the left side of his body, makeup usually covers the one in his face quite nicely
      - He doesn't like to talk about the fire
      - Whenever there is need o a replacement, he jumps right in, often times training late into the night to match his part
      - Sometimes it seems like he has two personalities, whenever he is talking to visitors, be it on stage or outside the tent, he is cheerful, friendly and very open, but after the last visitor left the premise, his demeanor changes almost instantly and he becomes easily annoyed, short tempered and sometimes even rude.
      - He is very harsh to new recruits
      - He has a weirdly good talent of doing makeup for everyone and since it furthers the show, he usually agrees to help apply it, or design a new look

    • Name: Josiah
      Age: 22 years old
      Height: 175cm

Background: Josiah used to count the days until his eventual leave on his fingers, figured that by the time he'd grown into an adult, he'd move on from working for a circus and decide where to live his life to the fullest - unfortunately for him, or maybe fortunately for his skillset, that time never came. Before he knew it, he was chaperoning those younger than him, taking care of the small ones that yet had to find their place in this world; why that happened, he'd never been able to say, but maybe it was because he couldn't even kill a mouse infesting their food storages, or chase of rats with anything but a sullen look on his face. His boss took note of that, Josiah was aware, and placed the most fragile life within his hands, even if he had more to do than just that. His performances, after all, needed some preparation as well.

Whenever Josiah thinks back on the old times, he recognizes no one but his boss and his most-trusted colleague, Louis, who has been by his side since he could form a coherent thought. No matter how hard the burden to bear, the two of them shared it, even if for the most questionable reasons. Soon enough, though, Josiah grew older and possibly more solemn, lost in his act and contored like his craft - whenever he saw a kid that had no one to cling to in their own tent, he'd care for them, take them by the hand and give them a private tour of the vicinities, especially when his own show was over already, or their home had emptied out of visitors for the night. Sometimes, their parents or families would come for them, but other days, they'd remain with them and Josiah, barely old enough to think for himself, would always ask the man that had taken him in if they had enough to feed another mouth - it would always start that way, and nobody ever stopped him, even though he was aware of any and all consequences involving the matter. Gleeful was but his demeanor, even though Josiah has always enjoyed being a performer. Making all those people smile had been a goal for as long as he remembered it, no matter how much he needs to change himself for it. No matter how far he has to contort himself to fit in - someone needs an admirable older brother, and Josiah has always played that part rather well, especially to someone like Louis, who he can't seem to leave be, even now.

      Trivia:
      - While mainly unaffected by the great fire that ravaged their circus, Josiah has a few minor burn scars on his arms and legs; some of them ruin the black ink on his arms, but he couldn't care less about that. Everyone is safe, at least, and that matters so much more.
      - Born with platinum blonde hair, he dyes it irregularly, with colors not approved for such activities, which means that his scalp as well as his nape have chemical burns on them; something he doesn't mind, even if the pain sometimes lingers for a long while. A clown would look better with his haircolor, yes, but Josiah likes the many eyes on him that marvel at his strange locks of hair; and the kids like it, too.
      - Josiah respects that Louis finds it hard to talk about the fire; however, he himself uses the opportunity to teach the younger ones that playing with random matches is absolutely not a good idea and that fire should be left to the older ones.
      - The contortionist is always interested in new kinds of anything - most of his allowance is spent on weird knicknacks that never stick, but at the very least he got to try them out.
      - Who keeps pet snakes? Josiah does.
